Kim started his career in economic consulting at London Economics in 1995 before joining the newly established London office of ICF International in 2000. In 2007 he joined IPA Energy + Water Economics (later known as IPA Advisory), where he developed and led the London-based transaction advisory team until the end of 2014. He relocated to Madrid in 2015 to join K4K Training & Advisory S.L. as a partner and launch its advisory business. Since October 2015, he has acted as EKON's Director of Market Modelling and now manages all aspects of the brand.
Kim advises developers, investors, utilities, fuel suppliers and technology providers on power, fuel and water desalination assets across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, Asia and the Americas. His work combines market studies, transaction support and bespoke modelling of prices, dispatch, revenues and capacity expansion, with a growing focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS), route-to-market strategy, ancillary services, flexibility markets and market-access arrangements for renewable and storage assets. Since 2001, he has supported the successful completion of more than 80GW of power projects and 743MIGD of water desalination projects, representing a combined transaction value of approximately USD50 billion.
Kim was a partner of the Electricity Policy Research Group at the University of Cambridge (UK) and still contributes to industry periodicals, conferences and workshops. Kim holds a Masters in Economics (with distinction) from the University of London and is bilingual English-Spanish.
